Is now a good or bad time to move? I’m a financial analyst with 5 YOE (3 in manufacturing, 2 in Saas). I’ve been asking for promotion for almost a year now in my current company. Finally, my new manager and all the leaders on the team are supportive of my promotion. However, he said due to budget issue, my promotion probably won’t go thru during this cycle (August), but they will make sure it go thru in Feb ’23. If I get offered SFA role outside, should I consider? Or stay?

Always consider, doesn’t mean you have to take it. It could be wildly better pay, opportunity, culture, etc but if you don’t consider or try, you’ll never know.

I was in a scenario where I felt underpaid. I had multiple banks reach out for roles prior to this and I always just told myself that I was happy where I was etc etc. I finally decided to interview. Got 2 offers and 2 other banks wanting to interview. Told my manager I wanted to stay BUT the offers were STRONG. My bank beat the offers. Just give it a chance. Worst case scenario you get interview experience.

I wouldn’t be super concerned with title, though you should make sure you get SFA asap considering 5 yrs experience. Make sure you are getting different experiences to open more doors for later in career

like

Yes, I agree. My goal was to either get promoted by August this year, or looking for a SFA role within the company or outside. With this current situation, I got “promoted” in a way, but it’s not officially until Feb next year. That’s why want to see others’ perspective on this.

Its never a bad thing to keep your options open. However, I would proceed with caution since layoffs are happening everywhere right now.

Hi everyone, I’ve been trying to land my first product design role and I can’t seem to get my foot in the door. I’ve asked mentors from ADPlist to review my LinkedIn and resume as well as my portfolio and I haven’t had any luck. I graduated from uni in 2020, was bedridden for a whole year which led me to fall behind and I’m embarrassed that I can’t seem to get a job after months of actively trying - I desperately need help as I’m on a Visa that requires me to be employed.
Any advice?

I’m curious. What would you say is the best industry / sector for…1. WLB, 2. Great people / team, 3. Exit opp’s., and 4. Overall (mix of the above). Goes without saying the obvious “it depends on office, team, project, client, etc.” So this is an ask for general observations.

Hi 👋 Any good UX books for senior designer level that helps with strategy, and good frameworks, or anything that will help me with my thought process? I have the basic books like don’t make me think, and 100 things. I’ll be joining a startup soon as chief designer, and will be back to being a full stack designer — I’ve been an IC for the past few years, so I definitely need to improve on strategies and maybe frameworks when it comes to UX. Will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! 🙏🏻

Hi all, I have a question regarding retirement accounts. I am not sure if I should choose a Roth or 401k (company has 4+2% match). Currently 23, base salary is ~100k and investments have brought 45k this year which has me teetering between a 22-24% tax bracket. Wondering what the usual tax bracket is of people retired (around 65yo) as I’m not sure anything would bring in significant income with the exception of investments. In my case would a Roth make sense? Appreciate any answers!!
