I have practiced for five years and make $121k as an employee of a financial services company. As the only attorney, I oversee all statewide collections efforts, from demand letter to garnishment, with a case volume of nearly 7k new cases per year, of which the majority I end up litigating. I receive only a $1k bonus per year. Is my compensation fair? My last insurance defense gig was $75k.

What would be a typical salary for a junior in house counsel role (3 yoe) at a publicly traded company in a secondary market (think Austin, Tampa, Charlotte)? I’m having a really hard time finding what a reasonable range would be. Most positions I’m applying to require desired salary in the application, and the truth is I’d accept anything north of 125k but don’t want to undersell myself and take a bigger cut than necessary coming from biglaw.

When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I'm an IP Attorney for a global Fortune 500 company. I only focus on IP mainly patent prosecution, Right to Market searches, Patentability searches, Landscape Searches, advising the business on IP related agreements.

What are some secondary skills or speciality that could make me more than just an IP Attorney? Do any of you have other parts of your title? Just looking to grow and my head isn't super interested in that, but the CLO is, but doesn't know where he sees a gap for me right now.
