It was awesome. Backend is backend- Period.
I moved from Deloitte USI to Accenture India Strategy team. Having worked with both US clients and India clients, I can tell a few differences I noticed basis my experience. Please note I'm still a manager working at Accenture India Strategy
1) The projects in India are always under staffed due to the local competition leading to overworked teams
2) A recent project sold by my MD was 60% above the next in line considered (EY). Competition and pricing is very stiff.
3) Maturity of Indian clients to advised to absorb consulting services is much lower. Most client employees and leaders will want you to provide as much free work as possible. Scope creep is very tough to manage
4) Sales cycles are very long. Sometimes even after spending months of effort on multiple proposals, decision making at the clients end takes a lot of time. Needs high patience.
5) while at Deloitte US clients paid money for dipstick assesment and high level analysis to the top firms being considered for a major transformation project, in India the clients expect dipstick assessments to be done entirely for free by the competing parties.
Thanks for taking out the time to write such a detailed answer.
+1
Indian clients want maximum value for money and aren’t ashamed to shout at you. Coz they think if they are paying then you are servant. This is based on my experience and things might change if you work with someone younger or previous management consultant.
