It's tough, but unfortunately, that's how it is. It took a while for it to sink in for me too and I've been through it with 2 boys (4&7). You just gotta get into the mindset where you know you won't be able to prioritize work for a coupla years.. it's not too bad... Enjoy your time with your kid, it goes by too fast! Once they hit 3-4 its a lot better. Before you know it they become teenagers and you have a whole new set of problems, or at least that's what I've been told!! 😄
This is where it's often good to call in the Calvary, a nanny service, parents to take the load off of you and your partner.
Yea luckily my wife’s parents live nearby and help occasionally.
Really nothing you can do about it unfortunately. My advice is to plug away the best you can and, as the Beatles say, "Let it be." You're not in control of your destiny until you get significant help (like a stay at home parent or full time nanny). Even then it's iffy. Also, don't have another kid until your work situation improves. :)
We had to deal with two kids with zero help for the last 4 yrs. I've given up on significant career advancement until they're older. The stress levels are out of control. Fairly certain I'm going to have a heart attack or stroke sometime between now and 60. I gotta learn to woo-sa my life or get into weed. Weed sounds really good right now.
Everyone deals with this. Don’t stress the promotion. Be with your fam.
Yup, this is just a part of life with a little one. Anyone at your company who has had kids should understand. Don't stress yourself out too much.
Be happy that you are already at the 2-3 weeks apart stage. We've been stuck in the every other week cycle for a but over a year. I can't wait for the immune system to get to work, but yea it is hard and those without kids just can't understand. Just be honest and push through as well you can. Good luck!
Oof. I assume you are in the US then because I’d tell my team to use their paid short term care leave and if that is not enough / they are completely spend: call in sick.

Yup this was me. It gets better much quicker than you think. Don’t stress that promotion, it’ll happen eventually. Part of being an active / present parent is shrinking the part of your brain that cares about work. Do what you need to do to not get fired or laid off and not a whole lot more.
