Hi Fishes
I would like to know about the client interviews (especially in data science or machine learning roles).
Are these interviews tough?
Are these interviews meant to assess technical knowledge? For example, what is binomial distribution, what are different data structures in python, ml algorithms etc.
I would request each of the nagarrians to share their thoughts irrespective of the technologies you are working.
I am thankful to you for taking time and helping me out.
Nagarro

Industry is that screwed. I’ve interviewed people for “urgent” roles at my job...everyone likes them, it fades to the background, and then months later I realize “Hey, uh, we never hired that guy.” Industry standard is to burn out the staff, panic and interview, realize the scope of work/money is changing, and hire no one.
Love it :)
Seems to be happening a lot. The most unfortunate part is that recruiters seem to be less equipped with the communication skills needed to make the process better for prospective candidates.
Is the industry really this truly screwed, or is this the new “thanks, but no thanks”?
This and “You’re not a cultural fit” are the new thanks but no thanks... I guess it’s better than “smell you later"
I’ve gotten this same response from the past 3 people I interviewed with. These aren’t just recruiters - they’re dept heads/partners, so I feel like they should have enough context to know whether to proceed with an interview ahead of time if it’s about needs/scope.
I feel like job hunting has turned into online dating... it’s become standard to dip your toe in multiple pools with no intention of diving in, then ghost as soon as the topic of commitment comes up.
I think it’s both. That’s definitely a canned recruiter response when an agency isn’t interested.
If they bother to respond to you at all
Yes the industry is that screwed.
But yes that is also a blanket thing someone can say when something, anything, or anyONE is saying “no dont hire that guy” or “wait dont hire anyone” or ANYTHING.
Pretty clearly, lots of people like you, dont take it personally. There are all kinds of shitty stupid reasons people dont (or do!) get jobs. But yes things are super fucked, financial wise and how-much-creativity-is-valued wise.
It’s honestly happened a few times at my agency recently. As in, we were interviewing for a more junior role but then got another piece of business that meant we needed to find someone more senior who could run both, or a piece of business we thought was coming in fell through so we no longer needed a new person at all. Shit happens, doesn’t always mean you weren’t a good fit
