How early is too early to ask for a raise?
Hi there! Interviewing w/Amazon for a non-tech role (Associate Category Manager aka Associate Buyer) and was asked what my salary requirements are for base+bonus+equity. Can anyone share insight on what Amazonians make in this role. I have 4 YOE and glassdoor is not very helpful.
Any feedback is appreciated 🙏 Amazon

Yes, somewhat overtly. I've been told by recruiters that there's no wiggle room and by hiring managers that this is their final offer. When it was the recruiter saying it, it was in one ear and out the other because that was early on in the process. When I've heard it from the HM, I've taken it at face value.
Coach
Yeah that’s so irritating, so you believe that once the HM says it it’s a done deal?
I've had managers drop pretty strong hints that there was no money available. I've never had someone tell me I couldn't negotiate, and at times I just ignored the hints and went ahead. I mean, negotiating is just part of having a job, so no one should freak out if you try to do it. Turns out that sometimes when they say there's no money to be found, there's really some money to be found.
Coach
Yeah I mean if they want you bad enough I think they can often find more money somewhere.
Mentor
Yes they try to make me feel like I should be happy with what I have bc it’s top of what they offer (3.5% raise is max).
Coach
Yeah that’s the same in my place, it’s such a small raise.
