Probably proceed anyway. Some battles you can’t win and upper management won’t recognize your competence/expertise. It’ll be a “told you!” moment in your head, but sometimes it is what it is.

Once I learned to take work a bit less seriously, it helped my mental health immensely.

They’ll be promoted and moved on and then you can go back to the way things were until the next one comes along wash rinse repeat the story of a leader at target

I’ll share some sage advice from my leadership mentor, Renee Hensley. I’m paying it forward.

In leadership, the “Toot, Toot & Salute” approach emphasizes the importance of alerting others to potential issues or risks, much like a captain sounding a warning about an iceberg. If the warning is acknowledged and acted upon, then you have fulfilled your duty. However, if leadership chooses to ignore the warning and no action is taken after a couple of times, you must salute the decision, accept it, and continue with your responsibilities without letting the inaction hinder your progress. This concept encourages proactive communication while also recognizing when it is time to move forward regardless of others' decisions.

Well, in this business the only advice I can share was shared with me and I didn’t listen, I stuck to my very correct guns and it didn’t work for me so the advice I got was to simply ….Shut up and color

Our annual reviews are approaching & one of my direct reports has been with us for almost six years w/ little growth. My reco was to let him go & find a stronger, hungrier & more motivated designer at the same level. However, my boss instead wants us to promote him in hopes that will spark some motivation. I am not behind this decision & have voiced my multitude of concerns in promoting an employee who doesn't deserve it. HR is behind the decision! Thoughts on promoting an undeserving report?

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

Any thoughts on how do we deal with an incompetent boss who you dont look up to and have no trust that you would ever get credit for the work you would do for him/her? Given that changing the boss is not an option.
