Heads up for you young folks just starting out. Used to be a lot of sacrifice to make partner then you had it made for life.Especially at old PW.

Now it’s a pain and suffering contest. The more money, the more stress and more pain. It is best for masochists.

An unusually large number of partners post on social media about doing marathons and triathlons and other pain endurance contests. Because the pain at work is not enough.

If this is not what you want in your life, you’re welcome.

No it’s just odd how many I know that do those. Not enough suffering being a partner you have to do marathon or triathlon on your time off….

It’s all about perspective. I think endurance sports are about discipline and they also provide stress relief. High achievers are organized m, goal oriented, and like to feel accomplished m. This could explain why a lot of partners run marathons.

Working out, running, is a great stress reliever. It is a natural way to feel better. Worth taking little time each day to exercise, it makes a person more productive. Daily routine is key.

So you are mad at partners that run marathons? Good to know.

I agree with your dark assessment of our career path

100% agree. But running a bit to relieve stress and get some exercise is not what I was talking about. An unusual number of partners train and run marathons or triathlons or other extreme endurance contests.

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?
