Not true. However, your raise the following year will not be as high as it would have been in a pricier city. I know a senior consultant that experienced this

@OP Definitely don't have that in consulting

Not sure how it works at Deloitte but the way it works at PwC is that there are salary brackets based on the cost of living tier for the city you live in. More expensive city = higher compensation

like

Don't think so. Especially since all first year commercial BTAs start at the same salary regardless of the city you're placed in.

Good to know!

I know one person in Deloitte audit moved to Texas and they lowered their salary, but bc of no state income tax the take home was the same

Def not true in consulting.

What is a reasonable salary to expect at assistant or associate level in San Francisco?

I recently received an offer for a Sr. Recruiter role with a startup. I have a feeling that the offer they made me is at the top of their salary range. The interview process was great and the hiring manager seems wonderful.

Knowing that she got me an offer for the very top of their salary band, would it be wise to still try and negotiate? I typically do negotiate any offer but I don’t want to come across as ungrateful. Please advise, I could really use some insight on this. What would you do?

VP, New Business with 8 years Agency experience. What’s the average base salary plus commission percentage? Any perspective is welcome! Thanks.

When calculating total comp/year in deciding between offers, do you calculate using the vested RSU amount/year? For example, if the company offers you 150K base+ 40K worth RSU(25% over 4yrs schedule)+ 10K sign on, do you read it as 170K first year, 160K Second year and so on? Some recruiters are playing with words during initial calls like “total comp is around 220K” to make you agree to interview(may be to hit their goals for the quarter)? Is my calculation not in-line with industry method?

Does the “salary should equal 1/3 of your collected billables” apply at a midsized firm that is strictly litigation? Mostly all insurance defense work. How about for a 3rd year associate?

I’ve never been in a position to negotiate salary. When I applied, interviewed for this role I’m in now. Our company had a hiring freeze. With this being said I didn’t work with the recruiter the hiring manager did. So I was totally unaware of my pay. Until freeze lifted and I saw it. I at least thought it would be 10% more of my previous salary. I’m not sure how to go about attempted to raise the “bar” I never signed anything or accepted an offer. I just accepted the role. Any insight?

I’m a 5th year in biglaw lit. For personal reasons, I won’t be able to work more than 20 hours per week for the next 1-2 years. Does anyone have experience with part time litigation roles? Maybe something like Axiom? Curious if this is even possible, and what sort of comp might be out there. My current firm is not an option. Thank you!

If a client says "thanks, no rush" on a matter that is not an active deal (closed several months ago), when would you plan to return the deliverable? Will take less than an hr to do when you get to it.

For me, if I get to it next week, great. Not working late because of it though.
