Second class citizenship. But the kind of second class citizenship where you’re a pool member at the country club — can’t golf or go to the main dining room. In the end, it’s still a country club though.
Expert path analysts, associates are treated second class for sure. We get paid less (a lot less 70-80% is expected of the generalist pay) and they do not offer us the same sponsorship opportunities. The only way to get them is to get promoted quickly and into a specialist role. Then they might consider it. I think expert partners and post MBA individuals are treated equally. The thing is the value of an expert is that they bring material knowledge of years of experience. You don’t have that as an analyst/associate, but they also think you aren’t smart enough to switch from topic to topic like a generalist. I would not recommend an expert analyst role to someone. Only join the track with 4-5 YOE
I am a Digital Expert.
Pay - Same as integrative EMs
Respect - Same, sometimes more due to depth of knowledge
Promoted twice in 3 years.
On path to make AP in the next 12 months.
Lifestyle - Equally good or bad as anyone else.
Good and respected EAPs have made partner in 2-3 years.
OP, don’t get discouraged by negative comments here . McK’s revenue from classic strategy work is declining while digital business is growing faster . Good luck with your interview process. Pls share the good news when you join McK!
If you on the implementation path, there is no difference in comp or trajectory than traditional integrative. Expert path (e.g. solutions) does not have the same comp or career trajectory but I hear they have a much better lifestyle!
Expert path and solutions are not at all the same thing. Expert path and integrative path have aligned pay at EM and AP. Both get AA as APs.
Solutions is indeed a different path with a diff trajectory and better lifestyle.
Expert consultant role, or knowledge expert role? Expert consultant role is similar to regular consultant role, just with more of a focus in a particular area of expertise. Knowledge expert roles often don't have as much client exposure and so have better WLB, but correspondingly lower pay. Both likely have slower career progression than a typical consulting role.
Thank you A-S1 it was a good help :)

You are in corporate services, not client service. In almost every company there is a bit of a difference but in consulting firms it is very clear who is in client service and who is not.
Entirely untrue.
