Hello - Healthcare Regulatory associate at an AM25 firm wrapping up my first full year in major southern city. I’ve been exploring moving into L&E since June, and I’ve generally been shut out with same line “great resume but no experience” at several big law and big 4 spots. It looks like I’m finally getting some traction with Gordon Rees with the expectation of doing mainly L&E work. My question is - should I pursue this or keep holding out?

You’d be insane to take that drastic of a pay cut to practice L&E at GRSM (or any ID defense firm). I’d continue to wait until you get the right opportunity.

Thank you. I appreciate the feedback, and it makes sense. Just wanting to make sure I don’t miss the window to pull off a major practice group switch.

Can you ask ur firm if you can switch to their general litigation group? A switch from litigation to L&E is easier down the road than from regulatory to L&E.

Thank you for the response. I completely agree. Unfortunately, our litigation group at my office is extremely slow, so this isn’t an option. I inquired about a move to our L&E group and was hit with a polite “no” as they are also struggling for hours for the associates. I was offered switches to transactional groups though.

If you are interested in eventually going in house, the healthcare regulatory will give you more options but L&E is way more fun

Concerns over drastic pay cut, no specific L&E group.

Round or exact numbers on banners/LPs? I was curious about this since in negotiations for example or pricing it's better to have the exact number. But if you have a case study, for example, is it better to say "Client X increased their revenue to 1,000,000 ARR" instead of "Client X increased their revenue to 987,500 ARR" ? Anyone has seen any impact on conversion rates?

Recently received an offer from Ogletree to do only class action work. It'll be a big change for me, I'll be starting as a fourth year. Double my current salary, etc.

What will this be like? It's more of a niche, but lucrative, part of their practice, right? Will I really get good WLB like they claim? I have a nice 40 hour a week job right now, no billables.

Case load= malpractice? Small plaintiff’s firm of 25 attorneys. I was a 2 year associate hired and given 50 active files in pre litigation status. 9 mos later a partner quit and I inherited 45 more. I got up to 105 files. Now I hover at 85 active files in varying stages of pre lit. I asked managing partner for help and was told to settle more claims to lessen my load. Is this what people consider negative work culture?

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave.

Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute.

If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?
