Hello! I am a '24 law school grad and have an interview coming up with PWC for an entry level Tax JD role in their M&A Tax team. I have been informed that it will be a 30 minute back-to-back interview. Hoping to gain some insight/advice on the substance of the interview process for entry level candidates, for example, whether it is truly a behavioral interview or a mix of behavioral and technical questions. Thank you in advance for any feedback provided!

Can’t speak to Pwc specifically (I’m in Deloitte’s m&a group), but assuming it’ll be similar. It’ll be a personality thing -like do you all mesh with some basic why does this interest you, etc. There is a lot of concern about LLM (I am an LLM) going to big law quickly and not hanging around in a B4 accounting firm. I would be prepared to show you’re willing to put in the hours and learn/work and that you’re generally a decent person to be around (no one wants a grumpy pants on their team). You’re coming fresh out of school so people to be expect you to have technical knowledge (even though you likely have a good base from your LLM program).

@Deloitte 1 Thank you for the response, very helpful!

Agree with D1. As a first year, it’s about whether you have the personality and attitude to succeed on the team. D1 is also right to flag the flight risk concern. I started at big 4 and I remember partners saying even then how it was bad to hire JDs because they so often leave for more money at a law firm. I went to big law after 2 years and we’ve hired several other big 4 people since then. So I’d just keep that in mind as you answer questions and describe yourself.

My experience interviewing in ITS for KPMG in 2015 was that there were no technical questions, although I was asked about my experience interning at Chief Counsel and what I worked on there.

Compared to my law firm interviews, there were many more “behavioral” questions. I feel like it was 80% that type, whereas law firms asked only one during an interview.

Which office is it for at PwC?

Why do firms fire people with low but still profitable hours? I am in my first full year on track for pretty low hours (~1500) but the actual realized fees (after writedowns) are still double my yearly salary. Is it because firms know they could replace someone like me with an equivalent attorney who would bill more?

Hello, I recently was reached out to by an in-house recruiter at a similar but slightly different company than the one I currently work for. The recruiter provided a base range and an OTE range. The lower end of that range is what I am currently making. The higher end of that range is almost 200k more than my current comp. The role is almost identical. I wasn’t looking to move, but that higher end range would set my family up very nicely for our goals. But I am happy at my current company. Help?

Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

Should I apply for roles outside the company?

As a law student interested in going into the field I’ve seen a lot of negative comments saying that only lawyers who couldn’t get into big law go into PA. Although I know most people try to get into big law initially, it is very competitive and many don’t stay past 2-3 years. You certainly don’t make as much going into PA as a lawyer but the pay is certainly not bad and the WLB is generally much better. Can anyone speak to how they got into PA and if you would rather be working in Big Law
