Hello, I am applying for a salesforce project manager position but I don’t really have experience with Salesforce. I have been digital project manager for the past 13 years. Any salesforce PM in this group ? Do you have any advice on how to become successful as a salesforce PM ?

This depends a lot on how the PM roles is viewed for that specific project. Sometimes the PM needs to be very experienced in understanding Salesforce’s capabilities and setup configuration (almost a mini-solution specialist). In these cases, it is very difficult for someone without salesforce experience to step into that role.

Other times, however, there are a group of competent business analysts, admins, and developers who can provide the appropriate solutions, and your role is more about managing tickets and timelines, coordinating individuals, and helping the team get unblocked. In these scenarios, a good PM without prior Salesforce experience can still do well (although you’ll find you can support the project a lot better once you know Salesforce).

I would recommend you find out during the interview process where on the spectrum your role lies for the project you’re applying for.

If you do decide to move forward, I then suggest you spend time on the Salesforce Trailhead training site, learning as much as you can in preparation. There are amazing training modules for every role and level that will better prepare you to succeed.

Best of luck on your journey!!

Great this is very helpful thank you, I will have a look at the Trailhead training site

Might be tough in this environment but agree with DD1’s advice - also in DD

Take advantage of online resources like Trailhead which is Salesforce's free learning platform. It's packed with interactive modules and guided learning paths to help you become familiar with the platform. Try it out.

In the truest sense of project management you don’t need Salesforce experience, your project management credentials are enough. However in this environment you maybe competing against PMs who have both project and Salesforce credentials

I would suspect that you will be at a disadvantage. If Salesforce is something you see long term I would suggest getting certified as a Salesforce Associate and Business Analyst

Do companies typically blacklist you if you received an offer and rejected it? For example, let’s say you were interviewing for Microsoft and during the final interview you didn’t like what you heard. They give you an offer and you reject it. As an experienced, SHRM certified HRBP , I would just like some feedback on your opinion of the differences in the roles between an HRBP an HR Manager besides the obvious that the manager should have direct reports. I am an HRBP and work in step with 3 HRM’s. They all 3 just got out of cycle raises of between 5-20% 😳 and I received nothing. I am quite aware of our HR code that salary is confidential but I was told about this. Would you be looking for other employment? Or stay?

Question! I just moved(transferred) to another team of my company and received new title, graphic & creative services. I was a senior graphic designer at the previous team. What do you think about my new title? I know that title is not a big thing but why I feel like my title is downgraded here… Good thing is my jobs here at my current team are what I really wanted to do. This is amazing. I love my new team and people here! Super healthy working environment! But just curious about the title.

3 Things to keep in mind which changing jobs:
1. Always ask dedicated budget for the job before you tell your expectations.

3. Always talk to people of team you will be joining before you accept offer or atleast before you join company.
