It is absolutely valid to ask the VP to chat about it. The associate needs to be puling their weight and I don't think its too much to ask that they do so.
Ask to talk to the VP. It sounds like they are already aware that something's up if they've pulled pages together themselves. Hearing this feedback from you might be the push they need to take action on an observed issue.

Not sure what happens to associates when they get promoted they all of a sudden think they are MDs.
On a serious note, sorry to hear about your situation. Definitely worth talking to the VP. You and your career and projects shouldn’t suffer because some associate isn’t pulling their weight. Better to de-staff them and escalate if that’s the pressure point. Frankly I wish more A and As would speak about this kind of thing because as a VP/ED it’s actually quite hard to discern who’s doing the work and who’s not.
Thank you ED1, much appreciated!
Absolutely, you should talk to a VP about this. I find the best approach is to presume the innocence and check with a VP if the associate is too busy on other projects you are not working on…if it turns out that there is non and you are just doing all the work then you can say that it’s not sustainable and you don’t feel the team work - this usually clicks
Thanks B1!
Update: I did it last night! Appreciate the encouragement everyone. He's actually been aware and had started taking action behind the scenes, had a very open conversation about everything, he knows I wasn't complaining or just trying to pawn off work and such.
