Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

It’s sleepily everywhere. Very dry. Remote opportunities are limited too.
I’d wait until the writers strike is over and we are in Q4 unless you love playing the tables. I hear it’s not just sleepy in the US but Europe too.
I think it’s a combination of that and a few other things:
1. We’ve hit a tipping point of consumer conversion in cable vs streaming viewership. The thing about streaming viewership is there’s no Nielsen box, streaming viewership numbers are oblique and the info released is controlled by the streamers. The strike might fix that.
2. Consumers, in general, are pretty bled out by inflation and post pandemic burnout. There’s a wider class gap so you’re not selling middle class oriented products around maintenance— you’re selling low ticket items, luxury products, and services that take existing services into the next web space
3. Consumers currently have a deep need for help connecting/ resocializing. You can get young people to go celebrate grimaces birthday. You can get rich people to go to XR driven events to incentivize buying a Hermes bag because a live puppet show helps them post pandemic reintegrate into human contact. Those kinds of campaigns feel more personal through socials
4. What can a TV ad sell that a Facebook ad or tik tok product placement can’t?
5. You can pay people not very much money to make Facebook ads or place products in a tik tok.
6. With a Facebook ad you get TONS of consumer info and the price for buy in is way lower
7. So it’s like where are eyeballs? Where’s the most bang for my buck? How can I make the most data driven choice to boost sales?
8. User generated content is miles miles miles cheaper than union employee driven content and tech is currently testing out how far they can push that. Like look at Reddit right now— can you make users pay to access the content they ALSO generate? Not right now. A human that would do that would have to be so deeply isolated. Connecting with humans in real life would have to be impossible. But also… could you get enough generations into the unpaid user generated content model, and make it so much better than connecting IRL, that we just flat out forget how if it’s not sold to us? Seems like the money would be in that, not storytelling, if I were a real bastard playing the long game.
