today I choose violence

Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

Stata is a joke no one actually uses it except for a think tank or two in dc (chock full of academics). R is also very rare in the wild, mostly only the academic types and some quants who usually come from academia or PhD backgrounds. The best way to learn anything I’ve found is by doing, build a project! Make a web app that does a thing (bokeh in Python or shiny in R, although I hear less mention of shiny everyday). Post some stuff to tableau public! Realistically, unless you’re super hardcore, most the roles you find will sit closer to business intelligence which is pretty low difficulty the modeling side and data wrangling intensive, so up that skill set too! Best of luck

Anything you’re interested in! Like I said I was doing quant finance so I made a shiny web app that would compute a valuation model and plot it historically against the stock price so see if it was over or under a fundamental valuation. Got me a job doing BI for PE firms. Just think what interests you and then build something and talk about it when interviewing
Is the MIT GL ADS program taught in Stata?
Nope, python! My background in academia is where I used Stata
