What is your current rank and what is the rank for the new role?
Is the ACN role client facing? And what do you define as good WLB in your current role?
ACN role is client facing!
Current role allows 100% WFH, not difficult to take PTO & usually work until 4 or 5
Your work life balance will definitely be worse. Most of the big consulting firms have 45 (plus) billable hours per week as the baseline and then you have internal initiatives you’re expected to work on in addition. I’d say a good week in my time at EY (tech consulting) is 50 hrs and the average is like 55 with spurts up to 70 around critical deadlines. Weekends and vacations were generally protected in my experience, except for the occasional Sunday night call.
This is a lifestyle vs. career aspirations trade-off question. An internal role at any client service organization is *usually* not a long-term career if you are looking for growth, as growth may plateau out at some point - observe for yourself where your current management chain ends and what the spans of control are compared to those in client service, as an empirical data point to draw your own conclusions. What do you do if / when you see a deceleration? Can you then switch to a different role at the firm or to the industry on the basis of your skills and experience? Or, are you willing to make the trade-off of that potential plateau and / or uncertainty of switching later, against the WLB and flexibility afforded at the moment? This is a personal, contextual and temporal question.
