Hey dads - not a dad myself but need some advice for my dad. My dad is about to lose his mother (my grandmother). My dad and I don’t really connect on a deep level, but I can tell he is hurting and this is going to be rough for him.
Any advice on what I can do for him?
Anything your kids did when you lost your parent that comforted you?

One thing I regret is not trying to record stories from my grandparents for everyone to listen to later. What I wouldn't give to hear those stories again. If possible, it might be something to consider doing.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I wish I had a better thought that could help, but that's the best I got for ya

Reflect on the positive memories you had with your grandmother and how that helped shape / impact your life. Particularly if there are memories the three of you share.

Honestly, just openly stating implied things “I know this is tough. I’m here if you need it. I love you. Etc.” can go a long way.

Be there with him during the process. Take LoA you may even qualify for FMLA. I brought my children into the intensive care when my mother was near death we held hands together as a family and with her. She was lucid and happy and passed the next day. My children had speaking roles at her service. It’s rough best you can do is stick together as a family and help each other through it

I love my SO. We’ve been together for nearly a decade and are talking marriage. I know being with him though will require living far from my family. I love my family and dread the thought of being far from them. My SO has been transparent about wanting to return to his home country. I don’t want to lose him but I also dread being far from my family. What’s the right call here? Fwiw he’s lived in my home country for about a decade now but has been able to visit his pretty easily (cont)

I just got a really great offer, only downside is the eligibility for maternity leave is after 12 months of employment. We got a faint positive today but have had so many chemical pregnancies over the past year that I am not confident it will stick this time BUT I am on aspirin and progesterone for this try … so it could.. I want to see if I could negotiate being eligible earlier but I also don’t want them to think I’m pregnant when I’m not actually… How would you approach the conversation?

Hadn’t noticed this sub before, and most of the threads are old so thought I’d ask a follow up - how has everyone been handling parenting with public accounting? Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

With my wife for 14 years, 2 kids under 8y - both under a lot of pressure bc Covid/work/private life/… and have been (unconsciously) running away from our couple not working “since a long time” (dixit my wife). We want to try and fix it, but I also met someone new (not sure if she would even want me) and wondering if it’s worth fixing it (since we are trying/running/avoiding it for years) - just worried about the kids…any advice

Hey everyone. I found out we are expecting our first child and I’m really nervous. I got into consulting one year ago and I’m up for promotion this year. With timing of our performance conversations I would have to inform I’m pregnant before outcomes - then shortly after the promotion effective date I would go on a leave for due date. I’ve worked really hard and I’m worried our wonderful news will throw chances with this :(- also if I don’t get promoted pretty sure it’s up or out. Any advice?

I been thinking about buying a 3bed and 3bath house or a condo. I haven’t had much luck in finding one so I started thinking about 4 bed and 3bath. I am single and I don’t have any plans to marry or have a partner staying with me. Is there anyone who’s single living in a 3 or 4 bed house by yourself ? Please share your experiences from all aspects. The only thing that makes me think weird is, it’s too much space for one person ☹️
