Hey everyone ,
I’m interviewing for entry level account management roles. I’ve heard doing account management at an ad agency is a great way to learn the ins and outs of the business. After doing account management, what are some of the different directions I can go? I would like to do brand strategy at some point.

I started in entry level account management in 2020. There are many things you can specialize in… small business, middle market and large business. There are contractors, tech accounts, non-profits, human services, cannabis… the possibilities are endless. Work on the accounts for a couple of years and see which ones you like working on the most, and then get a designation for those specific accounts. I’m making over 6 figures specializing in tech accounts after only 3 years. Good luck!

Do you work on the agency side still? 6 figures with such little experience sounds like a consulting gig

Hi! I started in Account and then transitioned to Strategy after a couple years. Agreed it’s definitely a good way to get your foot in the door and learn the business. I would say it’s easier to transition internally within an agency than trying to jump into Strat at another agency so that’s something to keep in mind as you’re interviewing.

like

Account management gets exposure to lots of different areas, which can feel overwhelming at times but gives you lots of insight into how the business works.
I've worked closely with colleagues in strategy, tech, sales. I actually transitioned to an acct mgmt from a business development role. As others have mentioned, it's easier to switch capabilities within an agency.

WLB was a big motivator, but after onboarding a new client we had won, I started to really enjoy the client facing side of the business and found out I was pretty good at it. I have continued to help with BD work related to my account, but pitching new business is tough on new parents IMHO.

You can pretty much go in any direction you want since the skills and knowledge gained as an Account Manager are applicable to any industry. The ability to build relationships, analyze customer needs, think strategically, communicate effectively, solve problems, demonstrate business acumen, and manage projects are universally valuable. This versatility allows Account Managers to transition and excel in different industries with relative ease.

7 year lawyer here. Been with the same big national firm all 7 years (not BigLaw) doing complex litigation. Been working remote a long time due to moving around for wife’s job. As a result of the moving was bumped off partner track. I’m looking at a great small firm that will be a practice change (but still litigation). I’m told they’re looking for someone with less experience and they’re skeptical because of my experience. It’s frustrating. How do I overcome this?

Has anyone ever posted a general marketing position? We have an open position on our marketing team but we are unsure what type of position to offer. We have a wide variety of needs but don’t necessarily need to have this future person have all these skills. For example we need someone with great copywriting skills and also need someone who is great at digital marketing. This person doesn’t necessarily need to have both skills but if they did great, but if only one, great too.

Hey all! I have an interview with
Deloitte in Regulatory Risk and more precisely in their Investment Management Services team. I would like to know if anyone
knows what the job entails exactly. I keep hearing about people "fooled" into taking a job in risk advisory thinking it'll really be advisory while they only end up doing IT and Audit support (which I do not want to do).
Is it the case here?
Thanks!

Recently accepted a temp role as an HR admin for a former employer. Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review. She has since left the company, but there’s crazy turnover in the company & in the HR department in particular. Just that an HR coordinator resigned. Is it worth going back into a dumpster fire w/ no leadership to gain experience?

I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.
