My company actually did a virtual escape room a couple of months ago that ended up being way more fun than I expected.
Which room did you do?
I can turn anything office-related into a meme. It's a skill.
This is a legit skill 👌
Rising Star
My team has zoom hangouts where we are in a zoom meeting but camera & mic are off by default 3x a week. It’s been really great because people don’t have to worry about “bugging” someone with a random call, they can just “tap” someone on the shoulder for a quick chat or some help.
Not sure if this is what you meant but it’s been huge for our team especially with remote work.
So glad to hear this. We’ve been encouraging this and in fact have pivoted to ensure at least two people are working on a task so no one is siloed. So far, so good
We get on zoom and play Scribbl.io or Kahoot.it which has actually been really fun and it lets everyone joke around and get to really feel like a team.
It is really fun! I expense lunch for everyone (doordash and the other apps make it easy for me to order for my team even though they all live in different areas. I tell them to choose something on DD and order it with my corporate card to arrive at the same time for everyone). We get together once a month for lunch and some games. It’s been way more popular than I thought it would be, but it’s a nice team morale booster (and everyone likes free lunch from a place of their choice)
I'm in desperate need of more ideas. Everyone is sick of virtual happy hours and I don't blame them because so am I.
Same here. We do lots of small team activities but even that is wearing us all out 😫
Less remote activity
We have a weekly meeting in which there's a section that every person gets a chance to share their life story, essentially one person each week. People have shared very intimate parts of their lives- spoken about their family, struggles with mental or physical health, about their passions, and also pulled out photos from their lives. It's a 5-8 minute share out but really gives you an insight into the person's life and make you feel close as a team. No fixed template, people are free to talk about anything that's important to them or defines them.
Nope, because it's an empty canvas without any specific questions, people have been open to share. Some have spoken about family, struggles and more intimate things while others have discussed broader topics like their interest areas and hobbies.
I host live trivia for my entire region using Kahoot. I just get it expensed. I did it from my own initiative and it’s really brought various departments together. It’s also cool to see who is good at which topics!!
Only like $20/month USD
Thank you!
We have spaced out some events so they’re not too much responsibility and they try to make them during the biz day so they don’t take people away from their families (lots of parents with little kids in my teams). We have done virtual escape rooms, virtual snack exchange (we mailed locally relevant snacks to someone in a different geo and opened on camera, really fun!), a virtual cooking class through air b&b experiences, and some happy hours with bingo and other simple games
The piece about it being inside work hours is so poignant- I agree 100%
You can make remote chat calls and shares about the company that you can interact with.
My manager opened our team meetings with a rotation of everyone sharing a favorite quote. Our team was spread around the globe and it really gave us perspective on each other - our selves, our culture, our mindset. I OUR team and whole organization has been reshuffle. I am surprised how much I miss these 5 minutes a week.
We are in operational roles - not the most extroverted or easy conversational folk. Give it a try!
We have workshops once a week that are led by ou team members and are based on random interests
Really love this!
Back when we were still in the office we did a cornhole tournament and I was shocked at how many people participated.
I had to Google what a Cornhole tournament was 😅 but yes this looks fun!
