Hey folx! My SO is filing for unemployment benefits after being laid off due to covid. The issue here is that he lives in DC as of Nov 2019, filed his 2019 taxes in MD and his tech company was based in Los Angeles but he traveled all the time. He filed in DC and got denied since they couldn’t find the job he worked?? Not sure if he should provide his W-2 to DC or just file in MD instead. Any help is appreciated as he’s weeks behind on getting benefits.

Sorry to hear this. He should file in the state where his employer is based, so CA in this case. Doesn’t matter where his residence is or where he’s filed taxes. If he didn’t work for a DC or MD-based employer, those localities won’t be able to help him.

Similar thing happened with my wife, who worked mostly in another state before we relocated last year. She didn't qualify for unemployment in our current state due to minimum hours requirements, but then had the opportunity to also add the job/company from the state we moved from to the application. It took a few weeks, but ultimately got approved once the state was able to verify her employment record with the other state.

Did DC provide that option? If no, recommend filing with CA.

He’s able to ask for reconsideration based on providing employment records so maybe that’s the best route here?

Highly Technical Market Sell-Off - Though, it has picked up over lunch and I suspect that short term turn is in near. Old floortrader told me once, never trust a market that is making new session highs or lows during lunch. That's not normal. This might not be a normal day; but we do need to rebound to get another opportunity into the short trend. So, count on it. The last draw is more suspect as it hasn't been proven to exist yet. So, we will see how we look when we trade 9855.75 on NQ.

Currently a first year staff in Risk Advisory in a Mid-Tier Firm hoping to move to Big 4 for either Risk or Cyber. When would be the most appropriate time to make the change? So would it be smarter to make the move now as a first year staff since I’ll be considered Experienced Hire anyway?

Fellow enterprise tech sales fish, I’m interested to hear your perspective. I’ve been in a rut lately and seriously considering leaving sales. I think it’s primarily fueled by one thing:
After a 6 mo cycle I closed a large deal (4x the average deal size) prior to receiving delayed 2022 comp plans. The deal counts as a 2022 deal. On last years comp plan it would’ve paid out at 10%. This year it pays out at a measly 4%.

How do you/have you navigated your way through and out of these situations?

How do digital nomads work from anywhere? After two years of this whole WFH thing, I realize that I need a proper routine, an actual WFH setup with a second monitor, a ring light, a suitable desk, an ergonomic chair, stationery, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love the flexibility of remote work, and I'm not sure I will ever go back to 5 days a week in an office (or even one day a week, for that matter.) But, how do digital nomads adapt by packing up and going so frequently between places?
