Google has very few project managers and mostly has program managers.
I can tell you with 100% confidence these tik tok videos are false. I’m happy to DM about my non tech PgM role.
Just for future reference, PM = product manager and PgM = program manager.
At a company this size there will always be people that find themselves in a low stress roles where they can coast, but in my experience that's not the norm at Google. People tend to be pretty smart and self motivated, so expectations can be quite high. PgM work can vary significantly based on the scope of the role, but is often fast pasted and very meeting heavy.
If your primary motivation is to find a chill job with good pay and benefits, I'd recommend looking at large F500 companies in more mature/legacy industries. Having worked at some of those companies pre Google, the overall pace is much slower, performance expectations are not as high, and it's a lot easier to get by without working all that hard.
(I'm currently a manager of non-tech PgM's at Google)
Those TikTok videos are excuses to buy people’s courses/services. Note how they themselves don’t work at any of these firms. I have a Top MBA, technical and non technical certifications and even I can’t get an email back from Google haha. Not saying it’s not possible, but need to take it one step at a time. Get certifications find an entry level job at small company, gain experience and start from there
A lot of them do work there but are much younger too. Most of the flashy tiktoks are the people in their early 20s
Google alum here. People work very very hard at google. Expectations are quite high. Don't believe any of those videos.
Is there another reason you want to work at Google besides the prospect of being paid a lot to do very little work?
