Hey Peeps,

I'm here in Georgia and really want to work at Google. I'm an educator looking to pivot into a non-technical role.

I see all these flashy TikTok videos where people with no experience got Project Manager positions and make six figures just to eat, shop, and have 2 meetings a day. I know there has to be way more to such an interesting position. Can any of you give me any insight into what a PM's day-to-day is like a Google?

Google has very few project managers and mostly has program managers.
I can tell you with 100% confidence these tik tok videos are false. I’m happy to DM about my non tech PgM role.
Just for future reference, PM = product manager and PgM = program manager.

At a company this size there will always be people that find themselves in a low stress roles where they can coast, but in my experience that's not the norm at Google. People tend to be pretty smart and self motivated, so expectations can be quite high. PgM work can vary significantly based on the scope of the role, but is often fast pasted and very meeting heavy.

If your primary motivation is to find a chill job with good pay and benefits, I'd recommend looking at large F500 companies in more mature/legacy industries. Having worked at some of those companies pre Google, the overall pace is much slower, performance expectations are not as high, and it's a lot easier to get by without working all that hard.

(I'm currently a manager of non-tech PgM's at Google)

Those TikTok videos are excuses to buy people’s courses/services. Note how they themselves don’t work at any of these firms. I have a Top MBA, technical and non technical certifications and even I can’t get an email back from Google haha. Not saying it’s not possible, but need to take it one step at a time. Get certifications find an entry level job at small company, gain experience and start from there

A lot of them do work there but are much younger too. Most of the flashy tiktoks are the people in their early 20s

Google alum here. People work very very hard at google. Expectations are quite high. Don't believe any of those videos.

Is there another reason you want to work at Google besides the prospect of being paid a lot to do very little work?

My friend just let me know that her job, Radish Fiction, is doing layoffs. They gave the employees the decision to either voluntarily quit with severance or stay with the company. But if they stay, there’s still a chance they may be affected by a round of mandatory layoffs.

I’m shocked because the company seemed pretty cool to work at and seemed to be doing fine. I even wanted her to give me a heads up if a role opens. Now, her career is hanging in the balance.

I used a referral to apply to some financial analyst roles. I like how recruiters are willing to personally decline you which opens a dialogue on criticism. I was given resources on improving resumes and interview skills. It seems my resume is in good shape according to the recruiter but I can’t seem to land an interview. Is there anything else left besides a referral and a good resume to get through? I feel like being from the east coast applying to west coast roles is a factor

I have my on-site tomorrow for a role that’s a great fit and I just received word that I will have an offer in hand for another company on Monday. The recruiter said they are asking for a response within 48 hrs of me getting the written offer. Is there any chance at all that Google would make a decision by next Wednesday if I conveyed my situation (even if pending HC approval)? I know things tend to move slow but figured I’d get some perspectives from the group here. TIA

Rejected by HC, per recruiter, seems all the hiring managers were ok and looks like I was second choice from the pool of candidates. Recruiter asked me to let know if I come across any suitable role in future, while recruiter will also keep an eye.Not sure how this HC rejection impacts on my future applications?
