I’m looking for some advice. I found out yesterday that I am going to be the only fully certified special education teacher for my whole program for middle schoolers with autism. The other classroom will be ran by a permanent substitute until they hopefully find someone. I am also a first year teacher who is teaching History and English. I will take any advice and tips seeming as I also do not have a mentor teacher anymore. Thanks in advance!!

What projects are working for you on a cart? So far, weaving and fiber is going great for me. It leaves little mess in their classrooms and doesn’t require a ton of supplies on my cart. Supplies are also inexpensive.

After 18 years, I lost my art room to a classroom this year in order to spread out kids due to Covit19. They said we can’t hand out papers.. kinda thinking art is remote for all. I will do lessons on google classroom with live lesson to classrooms and home. I was told special area teachers may be “repurposed”. We will be used like a TA. One class will be spread out two rooms.Aday teacher in one room, I help in other room. B day teachers switch 😳😷☹️.. I know I’m lucky to have a job but.

I teach elementary EL. During the "normal" school year I co-teach math, reading, and science in classrooms and sometimes work with pull out groups. I am trying to get some ideas to share with my school.

Anyone have advice for talking to teachers in your school that are upset with you?
My 4th grade class didn’t show up today because the teachers are upset that student behaviors that are an issue in music are carrying over to their classroom. I understand their frustration, but nothing was communicated with me. I even thought things were going better this week.

How is your district implementing school reentry? How are you setting up your classrooms to meeting social distancing while still allowing for free play?

Working through Google's Certified Coaching program and reading Jennie Magiera's book, Courageous Edventures: Navigating Obstacles to Discover Classroom Innovation. Wow! Where has this been all my life?! Perhaps some ideas won't work, but Chapter 10 is full of incredible and transformative ideas!

Have any of you had a once good friend date on of your exes? Never saw it coming in my case but my ex and best friend from nyc ended up moving to the same city and are now together. I thought it should have been rule of thumb for both of them to realize the other was sort of “off limits.” I cut my friendship with the girl. Have already cut ties with my ex so that wasn’t hard. It’s crushing when you find out. Not sure how they justified it to each other given we were all friends at same time

I burst into tears Friday as I said goodbye to the best TA ever! She is now a kindergarten teacher in another district. It took me an hour to get over it and I know the other teachers and admin thought I was crazy. Change happens. But when there are no subs available and no one has an answer for Monday….what will I do? 18 students are 10 to many for me to teach by myself. And when I ask, they say there is someone, just not sure when the sub can start. Thanks for letting me vent!

I have a para/assistant teacher that just wants to argue over everything. “You’re the teacher, why do I have to assess the children during break out rooms?” We have 8 kids, and I am only asking her to do 3! I keep telling her it’s all new to me too. Grace is not a word in her vocab. And I am feeling graceless.

Hey EC teachers! Anyone willing to get on a market research call with me? I promise, no pitch!! Just want to ask a few questions :)

Welcome to our pre-k inclusive classroom. Even with 8 students, and only face to face for 4 hours, we struggle. We struggle being heard through our masks. We struggle with social distancing. We struggle as we find ourselves constantly reminding students to keep their masks on. We struggle to keep them engaged and to teach. One thing we do not struggle with- building connections and showing out love for each child.

I teach PreK in a public school. Our state allows PreK programs to nap without masks if proper ventilation is provided. I have 16 children, a minimum of 3 feet apart, no masks, with two LOUD air filters, two tiny windows open, the outside and hall door open, at average in 72-76 degrees. What is your childcare classroom doing for rest time?

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. The school had 10 interview slots for me to choose from. Three were one day this week and the rest are next week. I chose the first time slot available. Should I have waited until one of the last slots so I was fresher on their mind when choosing a candidate? I am just sitting here stressing out until I here something. Also, do interviewers still appreciate a hand written thank you for the interview?
