My boyfriend has been trying to get into the field as an entry for two years. You can have the best portfolio and spend couple grand on UX, but without REAL experience you can pull from, it’ll be very hard.
Currently the market is super saturated. If you know someone that can help, go for it.
Totally agree with LPD1! The industry is super competitive, the economy sucks and companies are afraid to take risks with less experienced designers. A lot of design teams are laying people off or working with smaller budgets than usual so they really want people with proven track records who can almost guarantee good results.
It’s really hard to verify that candidates can deliver these kinds of results when it comes to entry level people who only have concept work and student projects on their portfolio.
I think the best thing you can do is build a portfolio that shows you’re capable of navigating a total shit storm and aim for roles where there’s some room for hand holding/learning. I personally targeted mid to large health tech companies with small ux teams that were very senior heavy when I was first starting out. I also asked many of them if they’d be willing to take me on as an intern or short term contractor. I think anything you can do to show that you’re not a risk or won’t slow the team down is going to help immensely.
How about PMM, product marketing manager , the pay is good
