Hi all,
Just got a new SE job with a high OTE I was super excited about. But when I saw the product, I was so shocked at how bad it is. My manager, also new, called it a “piece of sh*t” lol and on top of that, all the older SEs have up and quit so there’s no one left to train and onboard us new folks. Would you be looking for a new role or sticking it out? It’s tough with the market being the way it is too rn.

Congratulations that you have a job. I’d keep working while looking. Good luck.

Thank you, I am also so grateful to have a job atm. Thanks for the advice!

Common trap of the high OTE. Always ask to see the a demo of the product. It is a red flag if they don’t honor that request.

like

Honestly didn’t know you could ask! Good to know for future

Follow up q: How would you handle the conversation with other companies about leaving so quickly? Kind of looks bad.

like

Hopefully it's a decent base with a high ote or that is not going to be fun

like

Luckily the base is decent bc we’re not closing much anytime soon so can’t rely on the variable

Sounds like the place I just left!

like

!! I hope you’re onto better things my friend

I'm surprised you didn't present the product during your interview

Yeah that sucks! Good luck!

like

What product?

Price optimization

How much of your OTE are you hitting?

So in the past they did well but since all the SEs left, I doubt we’ll hit much for at least a couple quarters while we onboard ourselves..

Currently a Solutions Consultant at Pegasystems.

I am interviewing at and considering making a jump to
Oracle as a Specialist Solutions Consultant.

The reason for my move is currently at Pega SCs are treated more as AEs or Account Managers. The role at Oracle would be more of a true SC position. I also feel that Oracle will look BETTER on a resume and someone as young as me would have BETTER programs in place to train me and give me the foundation needed to be a successful SC.

Thoughts?

I recently had an interview with a very promising pre-IPO company in the AI/ML space for a SE leadership position. The interview feedback was better than I expected, but with a twist.
