Chase ecosystem is wayyyy more lucrative. Combo the sapphire and the freedom / freedom unlimited. Bonus points on literally everything.

2 should be fine - used to be that they’d only do one credit check if you applied for two on same day. Idk if that’s the case anymore. But if you’re concerned about it you can stagger your applications.

Amex gold is great for bars and restaurants
If you’re already in the Amex ecosystem, recommend the platinum.
I just got my Amex platinum last year. I feel like the benefits make up for the annual fee. I like it
Ex: hotel credit or flight credit
I also have a Delta AmEx and have Platinum medallion status so I know exactly where you’re coming from.
Gold is really good for everyday spend (dining out and supermarkets). Platinum will help you 5x on actual travel spend (airfare booked directly with an airline and prepaid hotels booked with AmEx travel). I have the AmEx Platinum card and I got my husband the AmEx Gold so we could maximize our benefits. We earn 4x or 5x the points on Gold and Platinum and then you can transfer to Delta 1:1 and use for travel.
However, based on the categories you mentioned you might want to look at the AmEx Green card. It would give you the most reward points without having to change anything. Also note that airfare and hotel don’t have to be booked through AmEx travel, which makes a difference.
AmEx Green Benefits below:
3X points at restaurants including on takeout and delivery in the US.‡
3X points on transit from rideshare services and subway swipes to tolls and ferry rides.‡
3X points on travel including airfare, hotels, cruises, tours, car rentals, and more.‡
1X points on other purchases.‡
Platinum has worked well for me. There are perks like free car towing that I have taken advantage of. I’ve had it since 2017 and it’s been worth it each year. The app tells you how much you’ve gotten back from the offers, which is in addition to actual points and some other benefits.
Everyone that says Platinum is thinking about the benefits of the card, which I have and think are great. But having the card doesn’t earn you points unless you’re spending in a specific way, in specific categories. At least that’s they way I read the question.
Chase Sapphire hands down. Lmk if you want a referral.

For restaurants and bars, the best rewards card is probably US Bank Altitude Go - 4% cashback (statement credits), Visa (accepted more places), no fee, beats rewards rate for those fee cards people typically recommend.

If you’re already in AMEX ecosystem, platinum all the way. Otherwise, Chase Reserve with Chase Freedom Unlimited
