YES DO IT. And stay at that job for at least two years. A tenured executive assistant can make a lot of money, and it’s a great way to learn how the executive processes work up close. I fell in love with the EA role and will be a career assistant, but you can also then move to Chief of Staff, or Director/Head of/VP role after CoS depending on your expertise. I recommend this job to anyone who has the desire to test it out!
I’ve been an EA for 6+ years. I love my current role but I’ve been looking to move to Chief of Staff. Do you know any great companies I could look into?
Do you enjoy the HR aspect of it? Not having been in an HR position, I can't say but seems like it could be messy working with HR-related situations. As an EA for all of my life, (I'm 56) I can make the role my own and I do enjoy the work and the people I come across. So whatever makes your heart sing, for now. :)
I think you can do more with EA role than HR - with less headaches. … or shall I say - different types of headaches
definitely different types of headaches 😂
In the EA role you become so versatile. You gain so much knowledge and it will take you a long way and open up many doors for you. Can be rewarding with the right company! Wishing you the best with the decision you make.
I was an EA for just over 3 years and then moved into Comms. I have really missed being an EA so I’m actually moving back into a support role. I say do it!
I agree with most of these comments. You are still an admin as an HR assistant. But an EA is definitely an upgrade and can give you a lot more versatile exposure. And you can ultimately pivot into different roles by climbing the ladder as an EA and like everyone else says, your earning potential definitely goes up!
Do it. I had 10+ YOE as AA/EA when I joined my current company as an AA. Reported to VP of HR, supported her, CFO & some for CEO. Loved my boss, she offered to mentor me into the HR Generalist role. Got SHRM certified, promotion w tiny raise. It’s been 1 year, and realized HR is not for me after all. Looking to leave & go back to EA.
I would recommend the change. I’ve been an EA for 27 yrs. I have a certification in HR management and compensation studies and still love working as an EA! Your earning potential is much higher as an EA than as an HR Assistant will ever be, and you have the ability to work along side those 1% leaders who truly care! You can be as versatile as you want to be - the sky is the limit! Go for it!! You will never be bored and you can still do HR matters.
