Ask about staffing ratios, mandatory overtime, scheduled start time, skills that you may be expected to learn above the usual PCA scope. Good luck!
You can also ask things about benefits and tuition reimbursement. Hospitals are so short right now they're willing to train people. As a PCA in RI they aren't allowed to do patient care. Theyre often safety sitters for our patients when we can't watch them so make sure to ask the job description and what your day will look like. Applying for a CNA position may be better for you to gain patient skills.
If you are a nursing student PCA is definitely the way to go. You can pick up nursing skills from other nurses all while getting efficient in patient care and assessment . In Florida and Texas working as a PCA allows patient care. It also helps you get your foot in the door for a nursing position.
