Holy shit fellow 🐠🐠 -- boarding SFO-ORD, and TSA is rechecking everyone's ID/boarding pass *and* doing a visual bag scan, on the gangway, after you scan your phone, before the plane. Two questions:

agree with at1. sounds like they are looking for something. let them do their job.

like

You all buy right into the police state and let this happen...let the record state.

like

They are probably looking for something specific, as this is not the standard.

like

1. Wtf is this a police state??
2. They are only (visually) scanning carryons, not rollers. This is utterly senseless and absurd, right???

like

Instead of being all pissy about it, you should be wondering why. You are about to be thousands of feet off the ground for 3 hours with a couple of hundred people you know nothing about. But hey what could possibly happen?

like

It could have been a last minute tip to law enforcement regarding a threat. The scenario you described is not typical. Someone in the airport may have seen something and made a report. Better a minor inconvenience than a disaster.

like

Unless you are carrying sex toys , you don't need to be embarrassed:)

like

A2 -- if they were really looking for something, they shouldn't have let 200 of us board with our rollers unchecked. And all of us had been through airport security already -- They should've shut the whole airport down and rechecked everyone if they thought security was breached.

So: This is the kind of thing that sounds good on paper, but is absurd when you really think about it, just doesn't make any sense. Likely a bunch of people who have to "do something" to stay on shift. And we all go along with it like sheep.

I'm all for real, actual security. I'm not for absurdist police state theater security.

AA 11:59 pm flight? If so, glad I was remote this week or I would've been on that flight and super grumpy (irrationally, safety / security first) about the delay.

like

I vote that they're looking for drugs. Still, just personal item vs carry on doesn't make sense

Hey Friends! Looking for advice!

My wife is a Chartered Accountant with 7+ years of experience as credit manager, underwriting loans with some leading banks in India. She just got her EAD and is looking for jobs, open to switch profiles as well. Do you think she would fit in for any role here in Seattle, WA? She has been a star performer and promoted twice in the last 3 years. One problem is companies look for US experience which she does not have, we just moved here early this year.

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??

Any advice as to how to help my other-half (who has bouts of anxiety and depression) apply to jobs? He’s going through a particularly rough patch at the moment. We had a big chat the other day which was great! However, even if we agreed that I’m doing everything I can for him (his words) it has to come from him (which we both agreed). He’s having a real mental block (I think with writing cover letters mostly) he describes staring at the screen feeling incapable. Any suggestions?

Does anyone else feel that the more content someone puts in their LinkedIn headline, the more full of it they are? I say this as someone with a bunch of stuff lol but at least it’s all at one company and accurate.

I’m talking mostly about two kinds of people. 1. The influencer who is actually unemployed, but lists 25 BS things they do
2. The brand collector, who writes “ex-“ for every former company they worked at and school they went to. Maybe less full of it but still insufferable.

Misled on Maternity Leave Policy. I found out I only get 4 weeks pay for maternity leave (STD +“sick days”). I will take 12 weeks but wont get paid for 8 weeks. I work for a US, west coast based company in the tech/VC industry. Their website claims to offer “paid parental leave and other progressive benefits for parents”. I didn’t find out until after I was hired their pay was only 8 weeks but since I have been at the company less than 12 months, I don’t qualify for their policy. Is this unfair?

Does anyone else find that even though the cannabis industry is booming, budtenders lack basic benefits like decent pay, healthcare, PTO, vacation, maternity leave? My company was acquired recently by a much larger company and they considered my pregnancy a “pre-existing condition” therefore I got nothing for maternity leave although the prior company had pretty much accepted my claim. There’s much more but I’m pretty disgusted in this industry.
