Depends where you are looking; each county hub and retail pharmacy has a different system. I got mine at CVS; they release batches early Saturday mornings in my state. Spouse got it at grocery. After we got ours, I’ve spent the last 2 weeks making appointments for seniors and teachers. Done over 50 now. It’s a thrilling addiction. So far I think Wal-Mart is the easiest to predict and snag an appointment, but it will be for a week from when you book.
If you have cvs around you, open their vaccine site and go to a state that has the link where you can click through to next page, answer questions and when you get to zip code enter in the zip code you’re trying to find. That’s the page that should stay open until the new appointments drop. Once they drop you hit the zip code again and the appointments will appear. I would have two-three tabs open on this page just in case. Depending on your state, Twitter and Facebook has groups dedicated to alerting folks when new appointments drop and tips and tricks.
Can you register on your county site? My county is currently doing online and over the phone appointment registrations for eligible people. After registering they contact you to schedule the appointment (from what I understand).
I’m not in the eligible groups but was able to get mine by joining a standby list. That may be worth trying as well, since they’ll connect you with any providers in your area who have available doses and who you may not have known you could sign up with! https://hidrb.com/
I’ve had ~6 opportunities to get it outside of my “need”. People are hustling the system like utter scumbags and killing availability for people that are eligible/need it. 12k people showed up for a 5k sign up just today.

My cousin is 26 and was in the hospital for ~20 days, half of which were on a ventilator. It’s going to bankrupt his family. Gfys.

I just got my 1st vaccine dose at walgreens. Took me 3-4 days to secure my appointment. Basically had to wake up at 5:45 am, make sure I was logged into the website and take the eligibility survey, and then keep checking zipcodes I was willing to travel to from 5:58 am to 6:05. Spots go pretty quickly.

^^ OP check when your state releases new appts. In my state it’s Thursday between 5am - 8am; all the many random vaccine sites (public and private) get new appointments then.

Find out who's giving the shots and check their website to determine the process for securing an appointment. We live in Ohio and there are 10+ public agencies and private companies (e.g. drug stores, grocery stores etc.) that have the vaccines. We checked each site multiple times an hour for 2 1/2 days before we were able to secure our appointments. It was a real pain and a poorly organised process. Persistence Is required
Where are you located? In some states, people have made aggregator sites for appointments. The dude who built Colorado’s appointment site made it open source and I believe he may have replicated it for other states. Try googlin around for something like that.
