How did you know it was time for a career change out of finance?

Do you hate what you generally do at work every day? If so, exploring other domains may be something worth considering.

Not exactly groundbreaking advice but not sure what you’re getting at here without more context.

likefunny

Also not any groundbreaking advice, but I would check your current financial situation. How long can you go where if you try something new and it’s a complete bust, you would still be okay? We call it F U money where I work. If you have enough to be okay, you could transition today. If not, I would at least consider some sort of safety net in case things don’t work out.

Definitely not trying to discourage you from switching careers, if it’s impacting your mental health I would change sooner than later.

Best of luck OP, rooting for you.

Finance is relatively broad career space, what part of finance do you work in at the moment? It depends really, I think you should consider venturing into other areas in finance like tilting to an operational role.

Bit of a niche topic: I’ve been in TS/SCI processing for a Science/Tech/Weapons analyst position with the CIA for 3 yrs since I finished grad school in chemistry, but CIA positions are sort of set it and forget it since they can take so long. I’ve since been focused on a Patent Attorney track and am with a firm that will support me taking the patent bar/law school. If I get through processing and go to the CIA for some time, do you think would I be accepted back into patent law later on?

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)

I am a 2nd year associate at a plaintiff’s firm specializing in toxic tort cases (individual). I’ve had the opportunity to be third chair on a trial, and will likely be second chair in an upcoming trial. However, given the track record of the firm and the amount of money at stake in each case, I am afraid I won’t get any first chair experience, if any, for at least another 5-7 years. I am considering staying at the firm but trying to get trial experience through side Pro Bono work. Thoughts?

Can someone explain the difference between FB’s Partner Solutions Manager and the Strategic Partner Manager? From an initial recruiter call, it seems the SPM provides the consultative product recs while the PSM onboards the client onto that product and tracks performance to provide actionable recs as needed. Anyone know career growth and salary for these two? I don’t want a sales heavy/only lateral growth role like their client solutions manager roles so these seem like good compromises?

This has happened to me twice now and I’m starting to believe something is wrong in the system or there is some kind of biased against women at certain workplace.
