How do those of you working as independent contractors land projects? I've just gone through agencies so far, doing my best to weed out the sketchy/stingy ones. I know of some of the big consulting firm talent boards for contractors, but haven't had any luck with those so far. There aren't a ton of projects on those.
usebraintrust.com seems like an interesting model in cutting out the middleman. Unfortunatey, I didn't do good enough on the interview.

I'm a little bored with what I do. I'm not going to lie about that. That said, so many projects out there aren't as helpful as they claim, so you can end up feeling like a fraud if you try to align yourself with them. I've discovered that the best part about most projects out there is generally the sales pitch.
Same. I used to believe in the mission but I find it more of a struggle than ever to align with it.
Hoping to find some “breath of fresh air” companies to apply to soon
I feel the same way - I switched to biotech and I feel infinitely better about the work I'm doing. I would recommend checking out some of the early stage places coming out of Boston and NYC, some really good stuff that can change patient care
Yes. I feel so ungrateful but at the same time I'm just not mentally stimulated.
I heard Cerner is working on some interesting stuff

I have found that the domain of the product matters far less than the overall philosophy the company has toward product development. If the company is dedicated to improving and investing in their products, then the work will be interesting. But, if the company just wants to fix bugs and maintain an aging tech stack, then the job is going to be boring and tedious regardless of the domain.
I worked at one company for several years that never managed to release any new software the entire time I was there, only incremental releases and "improvements." My current company is in a very "boring" domain, but we are constantly releasing new, major features. I much prefer my current job.
