I'm seriously thinking of relocating. I've been teaching in Mississippi my whole life, but I can't keep pretending it's worth it anymore. I just can't afford to live in Massachusetts.
Idk about Colorado but where I live many districts lost funding from the state and either didn’t fill retirements, let people go, and/or had a hiring freeze. I’ve seen a handful of last minute openings now that schools about to start next week but way less than other years. Good luck with your search I’m sending you the best vibes!!!! I got to visit Colorado for the first time last year and I was blown away by it. If I could afford to move across the country that would be my dream state 😍.
Massachusetts has good pay, but a high cost of living and high standards for students as well as a lot of requirements for licensure and renewal licenses. Sometimes working here feels like you can’t have a life outside of your career because we constantly have to be engaging in PD in the right areas to renew our licenses. In general, our jobs have gotten much harder here. I am bot surprised by the shortages. People want to lead more balanced lives. Teaching in a neighboring state or leaving teaching all together offers a better work- life balance in many situations.
