Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones?

Give the 2 weeks notice now but focus mainly on your exam. That way you’re still rehireable
Tell them you’re going to a competitor
When I left PwC for KPMG, I had my call with my Coach at 3:30pm, let HR know by 4pm and was locked out of my computer by 5:30pm. Had to do all off boarding, goodbyes, saving benefits/401k, etc info in that short window. If it’s a competitor they’ll make you leave ASAP.
It sucked for me because it was a Friday, and most of my friends/group weren’t online to say bye since it was after 4pm :(
If you do that you WILL burn a bridge
😭😭
Take care of yourself first. Don’t give details. Mention you are going through something personal that’s triggering an immediate resignation. Do it classy. Be professional. But take care of yourself first.
GL!
😊😊😊 thank you!
That’s the thing. I don’t want to give a 2 week notice, I want to just leave. But I don’t know how to do it without burning bridges 😐😐😐
Then do it but don’t expect to make any friends in the process.
Prioritise yourself. Burning bridges do little harm. Everyone finds a way
Nope but I feel it is unlikely that the same bridges will ever be used again.
Tell them you’re going to a competitor and they will ask you to leave immediately.
Just put in your 2 weeks and go on PTO
My firm allows it as long as you’re not on PTO on your last day, I’ve seen many colleagues do the same
What’s the firm and what’s the exit? If it’s non-big four current employer, I’d say the bridge isn’t worth worrying about. It’s about a 99.5% chance your leaving firm is going to pile a ton of crap on you to close out for these last two weeks and not care at all about your exams. So your concern is very valid.
Oh I see. You’ve got the tax stuff running right now. That means a 5pm day really isn’t going and your pay per hour is as bad as it gets. What’s the exit? Maybe the only con I see is if it’s a small shop there probably is a lot of local connections between firms. Might somewhat be tough if you are planning on staying or potentially staying in the local firm arena. If you are going to a National firm or better then I’d not worry I don’t think.
That might be difficult but still possible. I think what you want to do is check if teams really need you for the next two weeks or if they can find a replacement/not require your presence. If they don’t need you then check with your RL/HR if it is possible to have an earlier exit date.
Yeah I know they need me
We’ve had a couple of team members leave recently
😐😕
Wondering the same thing, I have a family wedding in the 24th the day off was approved months ago. I wonder if they will still let me have it off. I took the day before off too but I’m willing to work that day.
I would just put in your two weeks and work lol
I think we need more context. Are you currently Big 4 going to other Big 4? If yes, then they likely won’t let you stick around at all. If you are going small/local to Big 4 then you are headed to better pastures and no one will ever really care about your local firm experience again.
I still think it is crappy to leave your team hanging. Why hadn’t you thought about this before? What was your plan for studying if the other offer didn’t come through? Sounds like you haven’t been studying much and now expect to cram.
Are you in tax?
Audit, and it’s busy season lol
I second the PTO, but really I would work the weeks and put in 2 week notice - you can always take another exam, but what goes around generally comes around with hard built relationships
Put in the notice, spend three days transition, Then pto the rest of days
Would they give this much consideration to your schedule? Put in the two weeks, take PTO. They’ll get over it.
