Are you an AC or SAC?
I'm guessing a salary bump if in SF. Have had friends who left after their BA years and they love it. Obviously less travel and free food/ great office perks
Sure thing. Good luck with the decision. Not bad choice!
My friend is in FA after mba, she seems very happy. I bank background. She manages whole product areas. She loves it and enjoys the relaxed culture.
Pros: Better work life balance. More career options. More prestigious brand. Better pay.
Cons: have to find a new Fishbowl.
AC2
Thanks all for the great insights! This position does require SQL skills, and the work is very data driven. The reason I am not staying for SAC year is that I was planning to go to PE, for people heading to PE, they tend to leave before their SAC promotion. Eventually, I realized PE is not for me.
Yes, small base bump but quite some equity. Thanks for sharing, really comforting.
But FA position? Great company, FA just sounds so boring and hard to transition to something else after
^^d1 not true, plenty of internal opps. She is considering a move to strategy after 3 years in FA. Also rival tech poached her entire product team a few months ago and she had the opp to work on some seriously cool secret future products
From what I've seen, tech FA roles seem a lot cooler than FA roles in other industries. They require a lot more technical/data analysis skills (SQL, python, R), and are all about generating insights, rather than the traditional budgeting/forecasting in typical FA jobs. If this is the case with your job, I'd totally go for it.
Got it. I'm considering PE too but torn about it - and my departure point would be after SAC year if I pursue.
Why stay for SAC year if you want to exit to PE?
I heard they don't like white men, but otherwise you should be fine
Curious why you decided not to stay for SAC year
In sf of mountain view? It's a 1.5 hour commute between those places.
Yeah, I have seen people leave as SAC and join PE as associates too. Either way is not a bad idea. Best of luck!
Some PE apparently run a very lean and agile team, so they may prefer slightly senior people to join, e.g. EQT. This is my hypo.
