How do you be the squeaky wheel without rocking the boat?

I want to learn how to advocate for myself and push for opportunities without coming off like I’m a problem, or like I’m ungrateful or challenging the status quo too much.

Force routine check ins. Build a deck. Set your own expectations and communicate them. Hold leadership accountable. Show how you’re keeping the larger wheel greased while navigating through the icebergs.

Can’t believe I forgot that. If you can only do one thing to advocate for yourself

MAN 👏 AGE 👏 UP

If you can hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

Kind of fuck with the double metaphor, only cos it makes no sense but also does.

Been working on this too, and feel like I’ve made some headway so here’s my approach:

1. Be more vocal, but do so selectively. Speaking up is obviously part of it but you can’t say everything with a megaphone. Hitting the right moments makes all the difference
2. Get on a heater first or in parallel to the beginning of your advocacy. Being in good standing gets you a soapbox you can speak up from. Nobody will listen to a problem’s problem
3. Come correct. Being honest and direct in a positive manner sets the tone. But you need to bring the bloody glove, indisputable evidence in addition to the passion. It’s like getting hired somewhere, you’re chosen based on proof or potential, so try and show that you have both.

Good luck!

Do you all feel that the Health Insurance choice is actually all the same? The coverage is absolutely copy and paste for Bronze to Platinum and the deductible/copay is very similar.
I just don’t understand why we have the illusion of “choice” if the offer is the same and it is really bad (in our case).
Going from $61 per paycheck for 2.5k deductible 75% copay to $500+ per paycheck with 500 deductible 85% copay.
Other firms have better health insurance?

If there is a case that we have to quarantine again. Do you all think it is possible for store associates to work remotely? If so, what are some ways this could work? I fear another pandemic or outbreak and so many people being out of work again. I can't even fathom those that had jobs in retail that had little to no choice to not be remote.

Hello, I am in USI GES tax at DUSI. I love my job but not my team and mgmt anymore. I'm a performer and I'm dumped with work of 2 ppl while others are searching for work. I am burned out.

I resigned and accepted a job with EY GDS with a huge pay bump that DUSI can't match but I also gave up my potential promotion for 2023.

I've been feeling bad about putting my papers down and letting go off my promotion but I am really tired. I took up this job as an escape.

Did i do the right thing?

Hi all. I can't help but feel that my current 'Digital Managing Partner' job title is a little too niche when it comes to LinkedIn job/resume keyword relevance, particularly outside of a media agency environment. However, a 'Digital Director' title feels too junior and 'Managing Director' maybe a little more senior. Any logical suggestions please? Thanks

Hey Fishes. An early career question, Kindly take two minutes in your busy schedule to help me here? TIA!

I have been freelancing (right after graduation) for over 2 years now as a paid media strategist/ a performance marketer. In the upcoming months I wish to join an agency to get corporate exposure.

How do you determine an agency that's right fit for you. I was thinking about giving a shot at GroupM. What are your views about the agency?

Any better agencies that also accept remote roles?

So look, not trying to be a dick here, but legit, why do people who live in nyc always give off the vibe that they’re so proud of themselves? Like they’ve accomplishing something just by being there. I’ve lived in huge American cities before but never felt compelled to aggressively pat myself on the back just for signing an overpriced lease. It’s a great place and all, don’t get me wrong, no need to get defensive, but come oooooon, really? Just curios that’s all :)

If I applied to a company and sent a message to the recruiter on LinkedIn, but they haven’t accepted my connection request or responded to my message, should I follow up with an email a week later? Trying to find the line between enthusiastic and being a weirdo.

I think another offer might be coming soon but I really want a shot at this job.

Manager texted me at ~10pm asking for a non-critical update. I chose not to respond (until morning) because I don't want to allow a bad habit to form. Thoughts?

How do I be a decent manager to a coworker who's upset I've been promoted twice in two years and they haven't? We started out as coworkers, became decent friends after a few good moments, but went back to simply coworkers after they flubbed a few projects and I had to step in to clean up. I'm non-confrontational but year-end reviews are right around the corner and I'm worried about having to act professional to someone who I got too close with and who now hates me.
