How do you deal with a case/client that goes far beyond just “being difficult” and your firm won’t let you drop the client? Like say you’re in a situation where the case/client gives you every single warning sign in the book. Nothing involving ethics stuff but just a complete nightmare that far transcends being very difficult or demanding or unrealistic, and the firm does not allow you to withdraw? Do you basically just look for a new job at that point?

I had this happen to me, and I ended up going to the firm’s general counsel, who supported me in going to the head of the dept and executive committee to withdraw from the case by saying the relationship was irreparably damaged

I need to reminde you that you are not someone who gives up + you are very intelligent,You finished law school after all,

My advise to you would be:

1.Take a week off
2.While you are off research mental behavior of a person who is triggering you and based on what you will learn and already know about that person figure out a new approach ( treat that person as a doctor would treat a mentally challenged person)
a) take a distance ( you are too much emotionally involved)
b) say to yourself : "one day at a time"
c) recall a similar situation when you were child and see how a scenario played out after you were triggered and what happened at the end
( You are repeating this lesson now bc you haven't mastered it when you were younger)

Here I would like to ask if you are taking any medications for you ADHD ? If yes:
Your boss needs to be aware of it and this case file should be taken away from you,If not,
after coming back to work is recommended that you will;
a) take one day a time if it comes to this file
b) bring this file to everyone's attention during your weekly meetings : ask for wisdom from older and more experienced co- workers,explain how you feel but most importantly while you will be speaking : focus on the solution not a problem,focus on the solution not a problem ( I wrote this twice bc you are focusing on the problem not on the solution )
Best of luck to you and let me know if this helped :) ❤️

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
