How do you guys forecast the law school graduate hiring market of the course of the next 10 years? Do you expect the hiring market to go up or down?

I think hiring will go up, but I think you’ll see one of two things. (1) fewer spots for law grads leading to higher salaries for those who do get in but a lot less diversity in the profession (and a lot of people walking around with law degrees who never get to practice law) or (2) roughly same number of slots but much lower salaries for the same jobs when adjusted for inflation (which has already been happening for the past 20 years)…. meaning that in the next 20 years you’ll see fewer people interested in going into law which is what is happening to the accounting profession as a result of the high barriers to entry and low salaries compared to other white collar jobs.

Up. But depends where you go to school

Impossible to say, unless there are any clairvoyant members of this group (if so pls DM me). Levity aside, transactional hiring ebbs and flows with macroeconomic trends. Even in bear markets, counter cyclical practice groups (e.g. bankruptcy) will be hiring.

Hey, everyone! Hoping someone may have a lead for a free online database for training approvals and registrations? It doesn’t need to be fancy! I’m in a new role in the public sector and am trying to move them out of Outlook and Excel messiness for training registrations. I’m just looking to streamline and centralize the process. (We don’t have SharePoint or any centralized database.) Thanks in advance!

Corporate / M&A folks making moves over the last few months: Got an offer from a top 50 lockstep AmLaw100 firm. 4th year. Junior associate here, should I ask for more money if my firm is about 10-15 percent less hours but about 30 percent less pay? The gap will never be closed to the top pay scale at my firm but when I decided to come to this firm the pay difference was about 15 percent and not 30. Would appreciate any thoughts on how to go about bringing this up without pissing people off because I love the firm and do not want to leave
