How do you handle it when your job makes you truly depressed? I can feel my misery level grow each day at the office. I want to quit, but I know it might take me months to find a new job. What do I do in the meantime?

I talk to my colleagues and friends.

My advice would be to grin & bear it until you find a more suitable role unless you can afford to be out of work for several months. I resigned my insurance role in July 2025 to care for a terminally ill relative who passed in October, FMLA was not available since it was not an immediate family member. I am P&C licensed in 49 states and Life & Health in 40 states and since October I have applied for close to 50 positions, received a few interviews but no offer, The only options were low wage evening, weekend and holiday roles that I declined. I think my gap in employment and age are the main factors. I have revised my resume even listing my gap of employment as being self employed. I do believe its based more on if they like you instead of your skills. I previously worked in a toxic office where nepotism was rampant and I found that after being employed 8 years with the company new hires were coming in at the same rate I was getting after 8 years. I was a fool for investing that much of my life but I needed the income.

Should I clear some Interviews? Also how much would the salary increment be? On par with regular hiring? Any minimum time limit of being in AWF before FTE conversion?

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. I work until 7p at least every night. Top 10 family law firm.
