How do you power through the boring stuff??

I thought being a lawyer would be cool, but it’s actually very boring. I only like doing about 20% of my responsibilities in my current role. The other 80% is agonizing. I’m trying my best to power through, but the mental gymnastics and gaslighting myself (that I’ve convinced myself is self-discipline) aren’t working anymore. Any advice?

I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

If you’re a manager and you see an employee that wants to branch out into a different department, why would you keep them boxed in for 2+ years?

Been having trouble moving on since girlfriend ended relationship 3 weeks ago after 2+ years of dating. Before ending it she came over 3 weeks prior to basically give me a chance to work things out and we had a good discussion but then I went back into our routine and didn’t really fight for it or have serious follow up convos that we needed. I'm realizing I don't really have any "healthy" ways of relaxing outside of work, so drop whatever you got. Do you ever feel like there are rooms you’re locked out of? I’m a black woman, i lateraled to my group a few months ago with minimal onboarding and welcome. A white woman joined recently and everyone has bent over backwards to make her feel welcome and get her integrated into the group. People have invested less in me and it’s going to show in a few years when she’s up for partner and I’m still catching up.

My office is having a barbecue at one of the supervisors houses. It starts at 4 pm. what time should I show up? Social norms say arrive 30 minutes to an hour after a party start time but it’s since it’s a work party, what is the social norm for social work events?

How do you balance your social life with work? I feel like all my non-law friends are out doing shit every night and living it up on the weekends and I just can't. I'm either working or I'm tired from working. How can I set better boundaries about working outside of work, and where do y'all get the motivation to be outside after work 😭
