What sector or practice are you most interested in?
Since McKinsey is a Matrix Organization, you could start by taking on projects that fall within a single practice (e.g. workforce mgmt) but do those across different industry sectors. That way you’ll deepen your expertise while still experiencing the variety that you crave.
I've found that identifying my core values and overarching goals has helped me prioritize my interests and make more focused decisions. (Look for yourself first!) It is good that you can do multiple things so embrace it!
I can relate. For me, I had to crack down and figure out which area(s) I wanted to focus my time and effort to become more of a specialist. It's not easy, but if you force yourself to narrow your scope, it'll pan out.
That’s me! I have been in my job for 10 years now, started with a focus in one area but then probably should have left when my company started to place me on random projects. I somehow manage to always keep my clients extremely happy, that’s probably also why I am realizing fairly late that I should have focused more on just a few things
