How do you tell whether it’s appropriate to reach out to hiring managers, or just recruiters, when following up on applications and trying to get to the interview round? My sense is that some large companies really still care about protocol, since recruiters are the gatekeepers, and messaging aligned hiring managers can annoy them…but in some cases, I’ve also had success reaching out to hiring managers in terms of getting interviews (in the tech space). What are your thoughts?
