How fast is too fast? I had an interview yesterday and I’m already scheduled for an interview tomorrow. The company is a start up (well funded. Branched off from another company that is well known). Not sure if red flag or not.

Been in a similar situation and walked into an 8 month backlog of work. Leadership was a disaster and mid level business team was full of entitled lifers. I left for another opportunity after a year and am so glad I did.

Just remember the interview process is a two-way street and that you want to make sure you’ll enjoy working with these people.

Why would that be a red flag. If anything it shows they're serious

like

Had a previous experience where a law firm moved really fast and it ended up being a horrible experience. Had an in house interview previously that went to fast and there were red flags along the way. Not that it’s a universal experience. It just gives me cause to pause. I’m in a regulatory practice, so now I’m wondering if there is about to be piles of work when I walk through the door because they messed up 😅😬

If it was the first round with the screener that could have a fast turnaround and it wouldn’t be too unusual

like

This.

I would echo your concern because if they're moving that fast, what does it say about the role that you'll be stepping into and how desperate they are to fill it

like

Exactly! But, I will also say roles in my practice area can stay open for months. 😬

I would say not a red flag. After being in house, company hiring is much different than law firm hiring. Company hiring takes into account how long it takes the company to fill open positions, and HR or the hiring team has a lot on their plate and want to get things moved along quickly. Also, good candidates are hard to come by, and if they liked you, they don't want to wait and risk losing you.

like

This is a better sign on balance than a bad one. It means you’re moving on. Take the good news.

Found out it’s more so a part of their culture. Last interview is Monday 😅

That just happened to me. I found out I had a second interview the night I had my first interview. But they seem to have pumped the brakes after the second interview saying they are still early in the process and to be patient…not sure if that says more about a new hesitation about my fit for the role or their internal processes..

like

Interesting! I had this happen to me last year and they ended up going with someone else. I think it’s more about their processes imo.

Not an automatic red flag.

In house is terrible about interviewing/hiring. They don’t do it often so they’re inefficient and involve entirely too many people. We’re all busy doing more with less, so it’s rare for calendars to sync up.

It’s just as plausible that the hiring manager blocked off a window for interviews and you were the last one who made it past the recruiter. Or perhaps tomorrow is there only real availability for the next week, etc.

like

I was told it was the culture to be fast. I didn’t ask. They told me and used the interview as an example. So, guess I might have to get use to that!

For in house recruiting, there is no such thing as too fast (more like too slow). Be excited!

If you see an open job posting at a company you want to work for, what steps do you take to apply? I’ve been told that cold applying and making no contacts is usually not going to lead to anything, and that’s been true in my experience. But should I reach out to someone first? Should i apply and then email someone? In HR? Or someone who’d be directly supervising me? Or someone at my level? And what should i say? Thanks!

How hard is it to get an interview for SWE at FAANG outside of on campus recruiting? I’m in GT’s OMSCS program right now, hoping to take advantage of career fairs this fall, but I don’t know if I’ll have enough time to prepare for the technical interviews before then. I’m worried about missing out on the recruiting opportunity and having to resort to applying online/LinkedIn afterwards. Any insights into this?

I'm holding an offer from MakeMyTrip and another offer from OlaElectric. Ninjacart is willing to make me an offer. But they're saying that they'd discuss the offer only after the other company that I'm interviewing with has come up with an offer first. There's been a delay from HRs of the companies in a similar way. How do I urge them to send me the offer letter without sounding pushy? I had reached out to some of the HRs myself. Would that be too awkward if I accept & back out their offer?

1. Does the lower designation offered make any difference?
2. Kinda ambiguous, but what kind of hike or ballpark pay can I expect?
3. Any similar interviews experiences or focus areas I should prepare for?

I have an interview coming up with Church & Dwight. When the recruiter emailed me with 3 interview times I thought he was asking me what time works best. Turns out he was telling me I was scheduled for 3 different interviews for 3 different teams in one day. Has anyone heard of a company doing that or gone through this for an interview? It seems odd to me

Interviewing for Cyber Sec role. At very beginning they ask salary exp. I said usual way to postpone that question, and to figure out their range for role. On final interview and I mentioned 85-95k and they said it’s on the lower end for role…. Did I lowball myself?

Couldn’t get more info about sign on bonus, etc

Interviewed for a sr. PM last Thursday. Was scheduled for 30min but we went to an hour and had a really good conversation. The questions I got asked I was told the answers were perfect by the hiring manager. I felt really good coming out of it but then followed up with an email thanking them for the time the next day and I never received a response or next steps. Am I thinking too much into it or is it not a good sign?

I have a job interview today that I’m actually nervous about. That’s a good sign right? All my other ones I was dreading or just wanted to skip. I’ve only been jobless for 2 weeks - I would like more time, but this is a company and boss that we’ve been dancing around each other for about a year. And they have a position open at the same time I need a job.

On the left it is frustrating because there is a president who says racists things (from mex are rapists to there are fine people in Charlottesville etc...) and enjoys 80% GOP support.
We clearly agree racism is bad - how can we work together to resolve it? Where does it break down?

Hello! I see a ton of questions in here about interviewing and getting hired as a PM. I also know that it’s really hard as a manager to hire a great team. I’m the head of product at a growing startup, and just hired two PMs in 3 months. One a career switcher who’d never been a PM before, and one a seasoned principal PM. Whether you are someone who’s interviewing or someone who’s hiring right now, ask me anything!

Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.

Any advice on things to expect (or not expect)?
