How have fellow Managers navigated the move into a sales-oriented role as a Director? I find it hard to see myself as a "rainmaker" given my age (early 30's) and relatively small Rolodex.

I work in field sales as an IC. My aspirational career path is to end up in people leadership. Starting us off with an important tip: Your resume is a marketing document, not an autobiography. It should include relevant jobs, responsibilities, and perhaps most importantly, achievements. Where you can quantify an accomplishment or just talk up a major project you led at work or in an internship, do so. The point is to make the hiring manager think, “Wow, I need to talk to this person! They seem like a good fit!”
