How important is it to know SQL, PBI, or Python to obtain a supply chain job? Is it better to know how to utilize some of all of them or really be proficient in one?

I would say for most supply chain jobs, you don’t need to know any of those. However, all three can be super useful tools for you if you can become proficient at them. You will stand apart from your peers and be able to work with data in repeatable, efficient ways that your colleagues using Excel will envy (not to downplay the importance of Excel)

like

These 3 tools all serve different purposes, and you can make a career out of just knowing how to any one of them really well.

SQL is mostly for pulling data from databases and building custom tables that use fields you want/filter the data in a certain way.

Python can be good for analysts that work with large datasets, or want to build an analysis file that is reusable, meaning you can save all the functions and run new data through it later. (+ machine learning libraries, etc.)

It is important to be familiar with SQL, PBI, and Python to obtain a supply chain job, especially in this day and age of digital transformation. It is better to have a good foundation in one of them and be able to utilize them to their fullest potential, rather than just having a basic understanding of all three. Personally, when I was looking for a supply chain job, I applied those skills and found success in getting the job.

It really depends on what position you're applying to. While knowledge of these tools can be helpful, it's often not necessary to have them. However, having knowledge of these tools can make you more competitive and increase your value to potential employers.

These skills would make you invaluable, especially paired with a supply chain background. Companies everywhere are aggressively trying to modernize their supply chain management tools and analytics. The most successful implementations come from PM’s or developers who understand the challenges that come with supply chain management, and are able to create the right tools needed to get the work done!

I have recently received an offer from HSBC for Data Engineer profile. The designation offered is Senior Analyst- Information Management. They said that it is a techno functional role. Does anyone have an idea about what techno functional role actually is in HSBC? Is it more like a Business Analyst? My prior experience is completely in Technical side. Will this role be suitable for me?

Any suggestion is highly appreciated. Thank you.
