How many billable hours do you consider to be a good work life balance? My firm touts itself as a work life kind of firm and that’s why I chose it. It has a 1925 minimum and doesn’t count other types of hours (training, recruiting, etc) toward the billable hour requirement. I’m feeling more tired than I expected, but maybe that’s just on me. Would like to hear from others on this.

Do you always feel tired? How do you have energy for anything with this amount of work.

I have an interview with Korn Ferry for an associate principal role and am curious about others’ experiences have been with work-life balance here. Also, I have an idea of what I should be compensated in this type of role, but any insights on how they pay compared to others would be helpful. Are you traveling during the pandemic or have client interactions been virtual? Lastly, if you are a consultant here, are you on billable hours? My current consulting role is not - so this would be new.

One of my junior associates recently resigned and I've been trying to make an exit myself for several months now. I work at a medical device manufacturing plant as a training coordinator, I have a military background and a degree and am trying to advance but am feeling stuck. I am a literal jack of all trades, and am trying to get out of the hourly life, I’m working an average of 100 hour weeks and have been for at least the last 6 months.

Is there a way to work part time or close to 40 hours a week average with big 4 in advisory? I don’t really care how much I get paid and just want some WLB and health insurance lol.

I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. I am also looking to relocate to a different state. How do I go about properly marketing myself to companies that might not take my relocation and minimal experience seriously?

Folks that got a prenup. How and where did you get it? We have spoken to a couple of lawyers and it simply seems to be a back and forth they want to do to rack up billable hours/complicate the issue. Working at a boutique transactiona firm. First year did not receive much guidance and made a few errors, one of which could have been a deal but ended up being fine but overall I worked hard, billed hours above target and showed a willingness to learn. Three main partners in the group. What is the process for negotiating a job offer (from a firm or otherwise)? Do you have to be ready to ask for more salary/bonus/other perks right when they call you to make the offer, or can you ask for time to consider and then call back with your additional requests? I’m not the best at thinking quickly on the spot, so feel like I could be more thoughtful if I took a day or two to consider my requests.

When negotiating a sign on bonus with a new firm based on the fact that you were anticipating a bonus for that fiscal year and are leaving before that is paid out, do you have to do anything to prove you would have actually received a bonus/the amount of bonus you would have received?

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options? I've never worked at another firm.
