Some of my friends who are also RNs got the vaccine and they had bad reactions. Shortness of breath, high BP, and of course weakness. Other people I know just felt unwell for a few days. I’m still waiting until there are more companies offering more vaccine options rather than the two vaccines that are currently available.
I do want to update my response. I went the other day and got my first dose after working a week in the covid ward. The patients get really sick it’s really sad so I figured since I have the chance to get it, I should just get it now.
I personally would want to wait if I wasn’t practicing but clinicians come in contact with hundreds of patients every year, it seems selfish to potentially be a carrier unknowingly and pass it on. Commenting to hear some other opinions
I’m not getting it. Once I heard about the instances of Bell’s Palsy I decided this. I’ve had BP TWICE in 11 years and there’s no way I’m willing to get something that may bring it on again. It’s very painful, I have residual paralysis, and heaven forbid I got it on the other side of my face because I’d never be able to smile again.
I get that but if I’ve had it twice I’m not taking the chance

I suppose at the end of the day, one has to weigh the benefits of protection from the Covid and what it brings to the table such as death, long term heart/lung issues... versus a few hours/days of sore arms, HTN, weakness...
Here is hoping folks are granted the luxury of time to choose from multiple vaccines as the COVID death rate nears 1/2 million in the USA alone.
I researched the vaccine distribution for Southern California and found 8,800 Moderna doses sent to 3 urgent care centers near me. I made online appointments and we got vaccinated same day. I can’t wait to be fully immunized. I miss my grandchildren.
Had three doses of Pfizer without any side effects save a sore injection site. All vaccines carry the risk of feeling unwell but these are demonstrably safer than almost any that we already take. This has been the biggest third phase trial ever, and the most successful as well. I’ve had Bell’s Palsy, and Optic Neuritis, and other MS styled illnesses but I’d rather have Bell’s Palsy than long Covid or death.
I am waiting for more data. I’m 31, healthy, and planning to get pregnant this year. My husband won’t be eligible for the vaccine for a while so I don’t see my circumstances changing anytime soon (CA is pretty locked down still). Our parents and other elderly family members have gotten or will get the vaccine soon so they have been our biggest concern through all of this.

I received the 2nd Moderna vaccine and had only minor soreness in my arm. I’m thrilled for the protection this vaccine brings and will continue to navigate with caution when around others in order to help prevent the spread of this dreadful virus. I’m looking forward to seeing my 88yo mother in Assisted Living plus my precious 4 month old granddaughter!
