Where are you located?
I have a clinical supervisor and it’s a multi practice place. I have two associates degrees, one is general studies towards medical assisting, the other is associates of applied science medical assistant. I am also a certified phlebotomist and certified EKG technician. I’ve worked in Dermatology for 6 years and I don’t feel like I’m growing financially where I am.
I worked in Derm for at least 10 years (general and cosmetic). Did Mohs surgery and lots of procedures, so it does depend on where you are and your years of service as well. Would you mind elaborating in how long you’ve done this role and what is your perspective on how much more you should be making? Are your degrees related to the field you’re in currently and even though you have taken on additional responsibilities, was discussed with management what your opportunities for growth and progression are?
So honestly I believe your salary expectations are unrealistic. You need to find out what the median salaries for your role. I work in the Washington DC area and even where the salaries are higher in this region for medical assistants, there are a variety of factors that weigh heavily on what your pay range may be. You only have 6 years in and I have 25. I would advise you to test the waters make additional inquiries outside of your job. Contact your HR department and inform them of the changes in your role and see if anything can be re-evaluated. You may find the answers you’re looking for. What we consider our worth to be and what HR/upper management consider it to be are two different things. Best of luck to you.
