I ditched the books we have. They dont cover the standards and actually made my job more difficult. Since I created my own curriculum students do way better on their SBAC tests and fare much better in subsequent math classes.
Haven’t used a textbook in years
went back to text books for Covid. wanted the students to have something physical. It was a good decision.

Are you guys all virtual? Do the kids like the textbooks vs your own curriculum?
Not by teacher choice, but we haven't used a math textbook in.....at least 7 years! I, personally, wouldn't mind having one.
During our last textbook adoption we were told to pay more attention to the resources than to the actual textbook! Unfortunately the resources and books for Alg1,2 and Geometry stink!
I dont have a Text (transition math) I use all kind of resources
Why are classroom teachers having to develop curriculum? I have not used a textbook since 2008 when the WA state Math standards were released. I am now using Agile Mind curriculum through a grant for Algebra II and the free version of Illustrative Math for Geometry. It is so nice to have a curriculum again that is coherent. There are good curriculum resources out there that align to the CCSS. Go to EdReports.
What do you think of the Agile Mind curriculum considering using it?
The Larson books for pre-cal and AP Cal are pretty good. I use them for the theorems, example problems and guided practice.
We used guided notes for the last 8 years because the book was awful. We just got a new curriculum and it’s excellent! The online practice asks great /deep questions and offers help and additional problems at an individual level. It’s been a lifesaver through COVID and online teaching because kids can access it anywhere and it can be self-paced. My kids did well with my notes, but it’s so nice having resources again and not having to come up with it all myself!! It helps that Desmos and Dan Meyer are part of the book - good stuff!
We ditched the textbooks for most high school math classes between 5-7 years ago. Kids prefer it and scores are slowly on the rise and we revise and revamp

We haven't used one in at least 5 years. We were doing Saxon at all levels k-12 and it sucked at the HS level so we ditched it and use our own curriculum and I love it.
Guided notes since I became a CC teacher. This doesn’t mean I don’t refer to the books. Our school opted for more paper than new books. Most books are digital now anyways. I offer the digital copy every year. Maybe two kids take me up on it.
Yep, for almost 15 years now.
