24/$5k 401k/$0 cash ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wow fuck you guys lol. I’m 26 in NYC with loans and not one cent of help from my parents for anything so I have $1,500 saved lmao
41: $140k cash, $150k 401(k), $85k Traditional IRA, $850k stocks, ETFs, CEFs, and REITs.
CD3 I don't understand your comments about I am not doing well with my life. I just have more foresight to live somewhere that is affordable and not throwing money to landlords. My house is over $1MM and I am 36 with over 750k in savings.
34. Graduated with 40k student debt. No help from parents. Moved to NYC with 6k savings and slept on a couch for 6 months. First job 28k a year. Ate lots of frozen pizza.
Student debt paid off.

0 tolerance for people shouting privilege.
Don’t make excuses for yourself.
Get on your hustle.
Lmfaooooooooooo y’all funny. You think becuase you grew up poor that excludes you from other privileges It’s intersectional. Just because you’ve been oppressed doesn’t mean you don’t have privilege.
Let’s not forget that your whiteness let you into doors your income didn’t. White high dropouts are wealthier than black college graduates.
32/340k + 200k in house
Things I learned fast:
Don’t live in NYC or SF
Make good work
Quit every 2-3 years until you’re at 150k
Dress just vain enough to be trusted in this shallow-as-hell business, no more
Max out your 401k as soon as you can
Buy cars no newer than 3yrs old, in cash as soon as you can
Buy a house as soon as you can
Realize that most people struggle much harder for fewer dollars and be grateful
What this all really points to is that advertising and marketing are essentially just blue collar jobs, except you get to use a wakum tablet and a word processor instead of a wrench or a shovel. I could imagine the same sense of dread amongst coal miners and factory workers, with the exception that they can at least look forward to the possibility of an industrial accident to put them in a better place.
36 / $270k in 401k / $170k in savings - NYC. I saved most of the 401k by maxing out my 401k contributions only for a few years when I was 24/25/26 years old. I didn’t have any family money, or an amazing salary, but I lived in a crappy area and put the difference in rent into my 401k. Now I contribute the minimum to get a company match and am more focused on saving some cash for a rainy day.

Hey brand strategist 1 let’s not make this a victim olympics
24 / $4k in cash / $5.5k in IRA / $6k in 401k
27/ 10k 401K, 17K IRA, 12k cash
26 years old. $35k in a 401k / $6k in cash savings. ~$10k debt left of what was ~$50k in student loans. I feel okay about the modest savings considering how aggressively I've been paying off debt.
If you guys want to know the secret to saving, start by ditching the luxury car and home. Bring lunch 4x a week. Learn about index investing. Stop trying to keep up. I’m a normal guy. Grew up middle class, paid for college myself and thanks to rethinking how I spend, I’m honestly only about 10 years away from my FU money goal or soft retirement. It’s possible in this industry. Know your worth, work hard and save hard and it will come. I promise

35 years old - 240k in 401k/IRA - 30k in savings
I love these financial threads because people don’t really talk about money with friends and family that much in real life. Just make sure invest in stock and index funds early. If I could do over it would be that.
25, 0 401k , 200 savings, 300 in my checking but my ass is debt fucking free so WOOP
